YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - West Liberty's Danah Phillips set a school record and won the men's one mile race Friday evening highlighting the men's track and field team's trip to the YSU Collegiate Invitational.

Phillips, a graduate student from Clarksburg, W.Va., posted a 4:12.64 winning a race that featured multiple Division I runners by 0.68 seconds. He broke the previous record held by teammate Michael Harriman, set last January, by over five seconds. Phillips now owns the school record in three different races, including the 1000m and 5000m, which he set last month at Grand Valley State.

Three Hilltoppers set personal bests in sprints. Hunter Patterson ran a 22.43 and finished 10th in the 200m race, while Marshall Cheatham set a PR of 23.33 in the same competition. Senior Art Williams led the pack in the 400m race with a 50.93 coming in 15th out of 67 runners.

In Phillips PR race, Harriman, the now former record holder, posted a 4:19.54 in 11th place, while junior Brenden Sands (4:22.39) and senior Ben Hart (4:23.80) set personal bests.

Ben Bumgarner earned a top-10 finish in the 3000m race with an 8:43.46.

Current school record holders Liam Vinskovich and Dillon Meintel along with freshman Dakota Thomas all cleared 1.96m in the high jump. Thomas' was his best of his career in the Black and Gold so far. He nearly faced elimination at 1.86m but cleared on his third attempt, then went over 1.96m on his second try after clearing 1.91m on his first attempt. Vinskovich did not fault on his jumps over 1.91m and 1.96m, while Meintel tripped up on try one at 1.86m before clearing three straight jumps at 1.86m, 1.91m, and 1.96m.

Freshman Daminn Cunningham led the team in the long jump with a 6.74m placing 10th out of 47 jumpers.

Reese Burnside, a sophomore from West Union, W.Va., pole vaulted over the 4.73m bat and placed fourth in the meet. Burnside bounced back from a tough start missing on the first two attempts at 4.48m, then cleared three straight vaults from 4.48m to 4.73m finishing as the best Division II pole vaulter.

A pair of freshmen, Luis Martinez (14.79m) and Joshua Fancher (14.22m), led the way in shot put placing 11th and 16th, while sophomore John Brown headlined the team in the weight throw with a toss of 15.26m on his third attempt.

Brijaun Baylor charted an 11.70m in the triple jump placing 18th and the men's 4x400m relay squad of Francis Toohey, Tavian Richardson, Chase Pepper, and Michael Harriman finished in 11th place with a season-best 3:29.94.
