ERIE, Pa. – West Liberty University's
Abbey Horvath has earned her second National Freshman of the Week honorable mention award of the season after helping lead the WLU Acrobatics & Tumbling team to a 4-1 start.
Horvath, a freshman base from Wellsburg, W.Va. and Brooke High School, was selected on Wednesday by the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) for honorable mention recognition as the Week 5 Freshman of the Week.
Horvath competed in nine heats and the team event for Coach
Kelsey Kyle's No. 11-ranked Hilltoppers during last week's 260.360-221.975 runaway victory against Glenville State.
The versatile freshman helped West Liberty post six scores of 9.0 or higher, including a 9.60 in the compulsory pyramid and a 9.50 in the synchronized pyramid. In addition to competing as a base, Horvath also participates in the compulsory and quad tumbling passes for WLU.
Coming off a narrow road loss to nationally-ranked King (Tenn.) on Tuesday, Horvath and the Hilltoppers head north next week for a Wednesday night match against No. 6-ranked Gannon (Pa.).
