WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The 6th-ranked West Liberty University wrestling team is set to host its home-opening dual tonight against 21st-ranked Lake Erie College at 6:30 pm inside the ASRC.
The Hilltoppers are looking to bounce back from a season-opening dual loss at No. 11 Pitt-Johnstown.
Cole Laya and
Vincent Scollo got the 'Toppers started the match with decision wins to get West Liberty ahead, but the Mountain Cats answered by winning seven of the final eight bouts.
Ty McGeary took down three-time all-american Brock Biddle at 184 for the only other Hilltopper victory.
Last weekend, 21 wrestlers saw action for Head Coach
Danny Irwin's squad at the Mount Union Invitational.
Jacob Simpson (149) and
Toby Abbott (157) led the way placing third in their respective weight classes.
This will be the first dual of the season for the Storm, after opening the season at the John Carroll University Extra Countable Matches last Friday. Lake Erie has two wrestlers ranked in their weight classes by the NWCA. James Penfold ranks fifth at 174 and Christian Small is sixth at 141.
