BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - West Liberty's
Ruby Countryman has been named the Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 17-23, announced by the conference office today.
Countryman posted 14 blocks over 11 sets for an average of 1.27 per set to lead the Hilltopper defense in a 3-0 week for the Black and Gold. She highlighted the week with eight stuffs in the five-set win at Davis & Elkins. The sophomore leads the team in blocks with 107, which is also the second most in the MEC, and has recorded at least one in every match this season.
This is the third straight week a WLU defender has taken home the honor after
Nyia Setla went back-to-back the previous two weeks. It is the second defensive player of the week honor for Countryman this season.
The MEC Weekly Awards are presented by The Health Plan.
West Liberty is back on the court tomorrow to take on Alderson Broaddus. First serve is slated for 7 pm in Philippi.
