BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The West Liberty University volleyball team finished its weekend road trip with a three-set victory over West Virginia Wesleyan earlier today at the Rockefeller Center.
The Hilltoppers battled out a 26-24 victory in the opening set and then cruised to the sweep with ensuing 25-9 and 25-16 wins.Â
After the Bobcats scored the first four points of the match, West Liberty answered with a 5-0 run to take its first lead at 8-7. The teams traded points all the way into extra points, but it was the Black and Gold who finished it with back-to-back kills from
Riley Cudnik and
Nina Billotto.
The second set was all Hilltoppers and they closed it out scoring 12 consecutive points. West Liberty continued the run with the opening five points of the third set and never looked back.
West Liberty finished the match hitting .315. Cudnik led the attack with 11 kills and
Ruby Countryman added 10.
Haley Zeck dished out a match-high 23 assists.
The Hilltoppers tied a season-high with 11 aces,
Kirsten Bogunovich and
Kaija Sydlowski served four each. Bogunovich filled up the stat sheet with 11 digs, eight kills, three blocks, and four aces.Â
Billotto stuffed six Bobcat attacks at the net to lead the defense.
West Liberty will load the buses again on Tuesday for a trek to Alderson Broaddus. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm.
