CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston's women's tennis team knocked West Liberty from the ranks of the Mountain East Conference unbeatens here Tuesday with a 6-1 win at the Schoenbaum courts.
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (6-2, 3-1) saw their five-match winning streak go by the boards as the host Golden Eagles (10-2, 4-0) breezed to their ninth straight win.
Charleston jumped on the Black and Gold quickly, losing only a single game in sweeping all three doubles matches to take the doubles point.
Nathalia Valencia came up big for West Liberty at No. 2 singles, outlasting UC's Katie Swann in a tiebreaker to help the Hilltoppers avoid the shutout.
The WLU women step out of MEC play this weekend, traveling to Slippery Rock (Pa.) on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
