Box Score 1 JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The West Liberty University baseball team couldn't get the bats going in dropping a non-conference doubleheader to Pitt-Johnstown on a cold and windy Saturday at Point Stadium.
Coach
Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (0-5) were no-hit victims in a 1-0 pitchers' duel to open the twinbill before falling by a 13-0 count in five innings to close things out.
Mountain Cat senior ace Dylan Heid was in control from the start in Game One. The hard-throwing senior righthander needed just 93 pitches to complete his 7-inning no-hit gem, striking out 13 West Liberty hitters and giving up only three walks.
Justin Pennybacker pitched well in taking the hard-luck loss for WLU, holding the Mountain Cats to just one run on four hits. The only run of the game came home on an RBI triple by UPJ's
Tyler Smith in the bottom of the fourth.
In the second game, the hosts batted around to plate eight runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back until invoking the mercy rule after the top of the fifth.
Jarrett Delbrugge had West Liberty's only hit of the day, a leadoff triple in the top of the third inning.
The teams return to Point Stadium on Sunday to complete the weekend series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
