WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team spoiled Seton Hill's season debut here Saturday, racing away to a 7-0 sweep in non-conference action at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (2-1) took control early, losing just five games in winning all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point.
Gemma Cliffe and
Ishika Agarwal took a 6-2 decision at No. 1 doubles with
Luisa Agudelo and Jacqueline Pena Aceves taking a 6-3 nod in the No. 2 slot. Alex Olson and
Nathalia Valencia pitched a 6-0 shutout at No. 3 doubles.
The best match of the day came at No. 1 singles while Cliffe edged the Griffins' Kaelyn Zak in a tiebreaker. Zak eked out a tiebreaker win against Cliffe in the opening set but the WLU standout came on strong to post a 6-3 victory in the second set before taking the tiebreaker for the win.
Valencia, Agarwal, Agudelo, Pena Aceves and Olson all won their singles matches in straight sets.
The Black and Gold open their Mountain East Conference schedule on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. match at West Virginia Wesleyan.
