BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team was picked fifth in the Mountain East Conference North Division on Wednesday when the MEC coaches released their annual preseason poll.
Notre Dame received five first-place votes and 58 points to edge Fairmont State (56) for No. 1 in the North. Wheeling (39), Frostburg State (38), West Liberty (33) and Alderson Broaddus (22) completed the list in what shapes up as a highly-competitive chase.
In the South Division, Charleston was a solid choice at No. 1 with eight of the 12 first-place votes and 63 points. Concord was second with 53 points with Glenville State (46) at No. 3. West Virginia State (40), West Virginia Wesleyan (24) and Davis & Elkins (21) rounded out the voting.
Coach
Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers are scheduled to open the 2021 season on March 2-3 with a three-game series against Malone (Ohio) University in Mason, Ohio.
