WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with its second 3-0 sweep in as many days, breezing past West Virginia Wesleyan for the Black and Gold's sixth win in the last seven outings at the ASRC.
After knocking off Mountain East Conference South Division power Davis & Elkins on Friday night, Coach
Riley Schenk's Hilltoppers (17-11, 8-4) had no problem handling the visiting Bobcats (3-18, 3-9) on Saturday. West Liberty took charge from the start with a 25-15 win in the opening set, opened up a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 nod in the second set. A 25-19 win completed the sweep.
Seniors Maddie Clayton and
MacKenzie Daub were honored prior to the match in Senior Day ceremonies.
Riley Cudnik had a strong outing for the hosts with a match-high 11 kills to go along with a pair of blocks. Clayton made her presence felt with 9 kills, a service ace and 4 blocks with Daub and
Nina Billotto each adding 5 kills. Daub also had a team-high .400 hitting percentage as West Liberty hit a solid .247 for the match.
Kirsten Bogunovich led all players with 24 assists and 3 service aces while
Nyia Setla had a match-high 16 digs and a pair of aces.
Now tied with Fairmont State for second place in the MEC North Division, the Hilltoppers will try to keep it rolling on Tuesday when they host Alderson Broaddus in a 7 p.m. match inside the ASRC.
