Box Score GREENSBURG, Pa. – The West Liberty University baseball team dropped an 18-5 verdict to Walsh (Ohio) here Saturday in a non-conference game at the Seton Hill University Baseball Complex.
The debuting Cavaliers jumped on Coach
Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (0-6) for five runs in the bottom of the first and never took their foot off the gas, scoring at least one run in every inning.
West Liberty struck back with a single run in the second inning and mounted a four-run rally in the top of the seventh but it was too little, too late as Walsh raked out a dozen hits off five Hilltopper hurlers.
Connor Ferguson knocked in two runs with a pair of singles for the Black and Gold while
Jared Houser also had an RBI base knock.
Chad Matthus doubled in the top of the third for WLU's only extra-base hit.
The Hilltoppers head south on Sunday for a 10 a.m. game against Bluefield State at Epling Stadium in Beckley, W.Va.
