    BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The West Liberty University athletic department's academic success was recognized by the Mountain East Conference on Tuesday when the league announced its MEC All-Academic Team and Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2019-20 fall semester.
    A total of 58 WLU student-athletes were named to the MEC's All-Academic Team with fall semester GPAs of 3.70 or higher. In addition, 31 Hilltoppers earned recognition on the Commissioner's Honor Roll after posting GPAs ranging from 3.25 through 3.69. The 89 total honorees and the 58 All-Academic Team selections once again topped all MEC public universities.
    This is the fifth year for the MEC's academic awards program, which honors the commitment of its student-athletes to maintaining a high level of academic success while their sport is in season.
    West Liberty's women's soccer team led the way for the Black and Gold. Coach Barry Christmas's Lady Hilltoppers had a whopping 18 players named to the MEC All-Academic Team with 8 more making the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Remarkably, 15 of the 18 All-Academic Team selections maintained perfect 4.00 GPAs throughout the season.
    Not to be overlooked were the accomplishments of the WLU volleyball squad. Coach Kayla Mull's talented squad placed 9 players on the MEC All-Academic Team – 6 with perfect 4.00 GPAs – and had 4 more named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. All 15 members of the Lady Hilltopper volleyball team posted GPAs of 3.00 or higher, contributing to a staggering 3.76 combined GPA for the semester.
    The fall sports awards include all student-athletes competing in football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and volleyball.
    Nearly 1,000 student-athletes from the 12 MEC institutions who competed in those sports this fall earned academic honors. There were 516 qualifiers for the MEC All-Academic Team with 434 selections to the Commissioner's Honor Roll bringing the total to an impressive 950.
