WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University football team will bring down the curtain on its spring practice sessions here Saturday with the annual Black and Gold Game.
First snap for the controlled scrimmage is set for 1 p.m. at West Family Stadium. All the action will be shown live on WLUTV-14 with the voice of the Hilltoppers, Todd Ullom, on the call.
The format for Saturday's scrimmage is unchanged from recent years. Along with special teams work, the bulk of the action will be offense vs. defense utilizing a modified scoring system but the coaching staff is far more interested in the matchups than the scoreboard.
"The primary goal for every spring game is to come out of it with no injuries," veteran head coach Roger Waialae said. "We've been working out primarily on weekends since spring break but this is a chance to give players a chance to compete in game conditions. We're always looking for playmakers."
The Hilltoppers will kick off the 2019 season against a Mountain East Conference opponent on the final weekend of August. The MEC has yet to release its 2019 grid slate.
