BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty University's
Theresa Evangelista has been selected as the Mountain East Conference's Acrobatics & Tumbling Athlete of the Week.
A freshman base and top from Zebulon, N.C., Evangelista was a workhorse for Coach
Treasure Fields' Hilltopper squad in Sunday's MEC match at Glenville State.
Competing in six heats in addition to the team event, Evangelista helped the Black and Gold post some of their best scores this season, highlighted by a 9.60 in the inversion pyramid and a 9.10 in the compulsory pyramid.
She also helped West Liberty score an 8.60 out of 9.34 in the 5-element acro and an 8.65 out of 9.10 in the individual open tumbling pass.
This is the second significant citation of the season for the Hilltoppers' impressive newcomer. She was an honorable mention selection for NCATA National Freshman of the Week honors after an impressive afternoon in a tri-match sweep of Concordia (Wis.) and Davis & Elkins.
Evangelista and her WLU teammates face a stiff test on Saturday when they hit the road for a dual match at No. 3-ranked Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn.
