FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team pulled out a thrilling 4-3 victory against Fairmont State here Tuesday in Mountain East Conference action on the FSU courts.
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (8-3, 2-0) won the doubles point in dramatic fashion and it proved to be the difference as WLU and the host Falcons (6-7, 3-2) split the six singles matches.
Laura Huwe and Alex Olson breezed to a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles but Fairmont picked up a win at No. 1 doubles, meaning the winner at No. 2 doubles would earn the doubles point. The Hilltoppers'
Carleyah McLean and
Luisa Agudelo battled to the wire before prevailing in a tiebreaker to give WLU the early edge.
Agudelo, Olson and McLean then coasted to straight-set wins in singles action to put the Black and Gold over the top.
The West Liberty women step out of conference on Thursday to host Indiana (Pa.) in a 3:30 p.m. match at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
