WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty University head softball coach
Herb Minch has announced the signing of Madison Young, a hard-hitting All-District catcher from Harrison Central High School in Cadiz, Ohio.
Currently excelling in her fourth season as the starting catcher for the Huskies, Young is coming off a stellar junior season that saw her hit .419 with an outstanding .494 on-base average and a slugging percentage just under the .600 mark.
An outstanding defensive receiver, she fashioned a .964 fielding percentage behind the plate and flashed an impressive throwing arm with only 5 stolen bases allowed all season.
Young has been an All-Buckeye 8 selection since first stepping onto the diamond as a freshman and has also received multiple All-OVAC honors. A first-team All-Eastern District selection following her junior season, Young has been named to the OVAC All-Academic Team each of the past three seasons and also received the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches' Scholar-Athlete Award.
The daughter of Erica Young and Harrison Central head coach Darrin Young, Madison plans to pursue an Elementary Education major with a double minor in Art and Special Education when she arrives on the hilltop in the fall.
Coach Minch and his fast-rising Hilltopper squad are taking a 7-game winning streak south this weekend for Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders against Charleston and West Virginia State, respectively.
