BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – After blowing past a significant career milestone, West Liberty University senior center
Marissa Brown has been named Mountain East Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
The 6-3 standout from Columbus, Ohio shot better than 70 percent from the floor and blew past the 1,500-point mark for her career in helping lead the resurgent Lady Hilltoppers to two more double-digit victories.
Averaging 23.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots for the week, Brown continued her steady climb up the West Liberty women's career leaderboard.
She moved up to No. 7 on the Hilltoppers' list of all-time leading scorers with 1,544 points and is now No. 6 on the career rebounding chart with 734 caroms. One of only three Lady Hilltoppers to surpass the 200-block career milestone, Brown is now No. 3 all-time with 206 rejections.
Brown passed the 1,500-point milestone during Wednesday's 79-61 win at Shepherd but saved her best for last with a dominating performance in Saturday's 75-65 win against Fairmont State in the NCAA Division II Basketball Showcase.
The three-year starter poured in 39 points on 17-of-23 shooting from the floor while grabbing 15 rebounds and swatting aside four shots to earn Player of the Game honors from the NCAA Division II broadcast crew.
Brown and her West Liberty teammates take their four-game winning streak to Wise, Va. on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff against UVa-Wise.
