WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team opened the spring season in dominant fashion here Saturday, rolling to a 7-0 shutout of Clarion (Pa.) on the indoor courts in Wheeling.
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers didn't lose a game in sweeping all three doubles matches and followed that up with straight-set sweeps of the six singles matches to finish off an impressive spring debut.
Chloe Riley and
Laura Huwe rolled to a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles with
Raissa Wagner and
Anita Ponti teaming up for the 6-0 nod at No. 2 doubles.
Carleyah McLean and
Luisa Agudelo matched that feat in the No. 3 slot to complete the doubles point in the new NCAA dual match format.
It was more of the same in singles play. Wagner took a pair of 6-3 sets from Clarion's No. 1, Alivia Arnold, and Riley followed with a 6-2 6-0 rout of Vinisha Reddy at No. 2 singles.
Ponti, Huwe, McLean and Alex Olson finished off the shutout by each taking 12 of 13 games in their singles wins.
The West Liberty women return to the court on March 1 when they head south to open Mountain East Conference play at Concord.
