JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team had its 7-match winning streak snapped in surprising fashion here Tuesday night when Pitt-Johnstown swept the Black and Gold, 3-0, in a non-conference match at the UPJ Sports Center.
Coach
Kayla Mull's Hilltoppers (15-4) had rolled to a 3-1 victory against the Mountain Cats (7-8) earlier this month but the hosts came out smoking on Tuesday with a 25-13 rout in the opening set and never looked back.
Pitt-Johnstown coasted to a 25-17 win in the second set before completing the sweep with a 25-23 win in the third set.
West Liberty couldn't get its attacking game off the ground, charting just 28 kills as a team in the entire match and finishing with a season-low .060 hitting percentage.
Stephanie Leonard paced WLU with 7 kills while
Amanda Leonard had 18 assists and
Kailee Cunningham finished with 16 digs.
Madison Clayton had a team-high 5 blocks in a losing cause.
The Hilltoppers will be idle until Oct. 5 when they return to Mountain East Conference action with a triangular against West Virginia Wesleyan and Glenville State.
