    BECKLEY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team saw its season come to an end here Saturday afternoon as Notre Dame scored in every inning to outgun the Black and Gold, 17-10, in a Mountain East Conference Tournament elimination game.
    Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (21-28) had no answer for a hot-hitting Falcon lineup that raked out a staggering 23 hits against a parade of six WLU hurlers. Every Notre Dame (21-31) starter had at least one hit with eight Falcons notching multi-hit games and six of them driving in two or more runs.
    West Liberty more than held its own at the plate, pounding out 16 hits - including six extra-base knocks - with seven Hilltoppers posting multi-hit games.
    The Falcons held a 6-2 lead after three innings, pushed the margin to 12-3 after five frames and seemed to have things well in hand when they took a 13-4 advantage into the seventh inning.
    With their season on the line, the Black and Gold made things interesting. A 5-run uprising highlighted by a 2-run triple off the bat of Chad Matthus put West Liberty back within striking distance at 13-9 but it proved to be too little, too late.
    Notre Dame answered with a single tally in the bottom of the seventh and added three more scores in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
    Matthus had a big day at the plate for WLU, driving in three runs with two triples, a single and a sacrifice fly. Colton Coss also had a 3-hit game with three singles and an RBI while Justice Jackson tripled, singled and drove in a run.
    Nolan Marcus added two doubles and an RBI while Tyler Ramsay had a double, single and RBI. Ethan Estes and Coby Eckstein each singled twice in a losing cause.
