    CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team split a Mountain East Conference doubleheader with the University of Charleston here Saturday afternoon at UC's Triana Field.
    Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (9-10, 7-5) hammered out an 11-4 win in the first game while the Golden Eagles (13-11, 7-3) prevailed by an 11-1 tally in the second contest.
    In the opener, West Liberty spotted southpaw ace Parker Dyson a 4-0 lead after the first two innings and that proved to be more than enough. Dyson had 9 strikeouts and no walks before turning an 8-3 lead over to the WLU bullpen after a strong 6-inning stint.
    The Hilltoppers hammered out 12 hits against four members of the UC mound staff. Ethan Estes drove home a pair of runs with two singles and a home run while Chad Harper had two RBIs with a double and single.
    Coby Eckstein also drove in two runs with a couple of singles and Bub Haddox crushed a two-run homer. Tyler Ramsay put WLU ahead to stay with an RBI single in the top of the first.
    Charleston returned the favor in the second game, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second and adding three more in the third to build what proved to be an insurmountable 8-1 lead.
    West Liberty managed just four hits in the second game. Dalton Davis' fourth-inning double was the only one that went for extra bases.
    The Hilltoppers return home for a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday against Ohio Dominican.
