    BUFFALO, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team went on the road Friday and swept a Mountain East Conference doubleheader from West Virginia State.
    Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (8-9, 6-4) rode the strong right arm of senior Justin Retzer to a 2-1 win in the opener before pounding out a 10-4 verdict against the Yellow Jackets (12-11, 3-7) in the finale at the Buffalo High School diamond.
    Retzer hurled his second straight complete-game gem in the first contest, striking out nine while issuing just one walk and scattering five singles. The senior righthander has yielded one run on six hits with 19 strikeouts and one walk in his last 15 innings on the hill.
    Ethan Estes had two of the Black and Gold's six hits, including an RBI single up the middle that snapped a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth. Dalton Davis and Justice Jackson also doubled for WLU.
    In the second game, the Hilltoppers raked out 16 hits against five West Virginia State pitchers to complete the sweep.
    Bub Haddox had a double and two singles to drive in a run while Coby Eckstein had a single and a solo home run. Tyler Ramsay launched a two-run blast and Davis chased home a pair of runs with a double and a single. Chad Matthus had two singles and two RBIs, Estes drove in another run with a double and a single and Nolan Marcus chipped in with two more base knocks.
    Logan Grimm worked the first five innings on the mound to get the win, giving up only two earned runs, and Matt Gruber closed things out with two innings of shutout ball.
    The Hilltoppers head to the University of Charleston on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
