HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – The unbeaten and regionally-ranked Seton Hill University baseball team eked out a 5-2 victory against West Liberty here Sunday afternoon in a scheduled 9-inning game at Ting Park.
Coach
Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (2-3), who were among teams receiving votes in the Atlantic Region coaches' poll, jumped out to a quick early lead when Bub Haddox led off the game with a deep drive over the right field wall.
The Griffins (3-0), ranked No. 3 in the region, manufactured single tallies without benefit of a hit in the first two innings to take a 2-1 lead and pushed the margin to 3-1 when Tom McCarthy launched a solo homer to left for Seton Hill's first hit of the game.
Hilltopper starter Parker Dyson and Griffin starter Jared Kollar matched zeroes for the next few frames before turning the game over to the bullpens.
Seton Hill tacked on two more runs on an RBI double and a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to make it 5-1. West Liberty's Dalton Davis led off the top of the eighth with a homer to center to wrap up the scoring.
The Hilltoppers return to action Saturday when they travel to Washington, Pa. for a non-conference doubleheader against California (Pa.).
