WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The No. 2-ranked West Liberty University men's basketball team will be tested this weekend when Coach
Ben Howlett's Hilltoppers host the annual MEC/PSAC Crossover Tournament Friday and Saturday at the ASRC.
The Black and Gold open the tournament on Friday with a 5:30 p.m. game against a Kutztown (Pa.) squad coming off its third straight 20-win season.
It's out of the frying pan and into the fire for Saturday's tournament finale with a veteran West Chester (Pa.) squad taking the court for a 5 p.m. tipoff against the Hilltoppers. West Chester has four starters back from last year's team that rolled all the way to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region semifinals.
Howlett, who earned MEC Coach of the Year honors after leading West Liberty to an MEC championship and NCAA Division II Tournament bid in his debut season last winter, spoke with hilltoppersports.com about toughening up the schedule for this weekend's event.
The former WLU standout also touched on the return of senior guard
Brady Arnold, who is back on the court after fighting a successful battle against cancer a year ago.
