Another 20-Win Season for WLU Volleyball

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The regionally-ranked West Liberty University volleyball team locked up its third straight 20-win season here Friday night with a 3-0 sweep of Concord at the ASRC.
Coach Kayla Mull's Hilltoppers (20-8, 8-4) checked in at No. 10 in this week's NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings, the first such ranking in school history, and the Mountain Lions (5-22, 2-10) were outmatched from the start.
West Liberty opened the first set on an 8-0 run and coasted to a 25-17 win. Concord traded points with the hosts until the midway point of the second set when a 6-0 WLU run turned an 11-10 deficit into a 16-11 lead en route to a 25-16 romp. The Hilltoppers followed that up with a wire-to-wire 25-16 victory in the third set to bring down the curtain.
Olivia Baumhoer and Abbi Gillson led the way for West Liberty. Baumhoer sent home a match-high 13 kills with a solid .571 hitting percentage and Gillson backed her with 11 kills off an eye-popping .786 hitting percentage.
Stephanie Leonard and Madison Clayton finished with 9 and 7 kills, respectively, while Kailee Cunningham stuffed the stat sheet with 5 kills, 17 digs and 4 service aces. Renee Lemke posted a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs, Kendall Souder added 19 assists and Mackenzie Sims tied Cunningham with 17 digs.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action on Saturday when they host UVa-Wise on Senior Day. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the ASRC.
