BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty University linebacker Cliff Clark was selected Monday as the Mountain East Conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
The 6-4, 235-pound senior from Cambridge, Ohio posted his sixth consecutive double-figure tackle game with a dozen stops – 11 of them solo hits – to go along with two tackles-for-loss as the Hilltoppers snapped West Virginia State's four-game winning streak with a 36-24 victory on Homecoming at West Family Stadium.
A returning All-MEC, All-Region and honorable mention All-America linebacker, Clark now leads NCAA Division II with 65 solo tackles on the year. His 12 total tackles on Saturday put him at 101 for the season, good enough for No. 3 on the national charts.
After leading the MEC with 107 tackles a year ago, Clark is now the first Hilltopper to post back-to-back 100-tackle seasons since Dave Peterson did it in 1994-95.
West Liberty makes the long trek south to Concord on Saturday for a noon kickoff at Callaghan Stadium.
