WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule on Saturday with a solid performance in the Hilltopper Invitational at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Coach Heather Gallagher's youthful squad welcomed teams from Grove City (Pa.) College and Fairmont State University to the WLU campus for the day-long competition, which featured 23 singles matches and 11 doubles events.
Senior Laura Huwe and redshirt freshman Luisa Agudelo led the way for the Black and Gold, sweeping both of their singles matches in straight sets while also picking up a win in doubles play.
Huwe rolled to a 6-0 6-0 shutout of Grove City's Leigh Ann Trepanier and coasted past Fairmont State's Hayley Hatfield, 6-3 6-2, in singles action. The four-year starter also teamed with freshman Chloe Riley for an 8-2 rout of Grove City's Jennifer Elder and Madi Reed in doubles.
Agudelo was virtually untouchable in her singles matches. The Oral Roberts transfer posted identical 6-1 6-0 blowouts of Grove City's Melissa Karidis and Fairmont's Bailey Edeburn. Agudelo joined with American International transfer Carleyah McLean to post an 8-5 doubles win against Grove City's Maggie Manchester and Rachel Ford.
