WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty University head volleyball coach Kayla Mull has announced the signing of Megan Stanton, an All-Ohio standout from perennial Buckeye State powerhouse Newark Catholic High School.
Stanton is a 5-9 setter who helped lead the Green Wave to four sectional titles and three district championships to go along with a pair of regional crowns and state tournament "Final Four" berths during a stellar four-year career at the central Ohio school.
The newest Hilltopper was a three-time All-Licking County League and All-District selection who earned third-team All-Ohio Division III laurels at the end of her senior season. Stanton capped her career by playing in the OHSVCA Coaches' All-Star Game following the state tournament in the fall.
Stanton, who also plays for the New Wave Volleyball Club, brings a strong winning tradition to the hilltop as the Newark Catholic volleyball program has made 18 Ohio state tournament appearances and returned home with eight state championships.
"Megan has played quite a bit of high-level volleyball, both at the high school and club level, which is a tremendous asset for a student-athlete making the transition to college," Mull said. "She is blessed with a great deal of natural athleticism and brings great energy to the court on every point.
"Her teammates really feed off that positive energy and that's a great attribute for a setter to have. Megan's a very strong competitor who has the potential to make an immediate impact when she arrives on campus in the fall."
Also a standout in the classroom, Stanton plans to pursue a Biology major at West Liberty.
