West Liberty Win Streak Snapped at Seton Hill

Baseball | 4/5/2017 7:21:00 PM

Box Score GREENSBURG, Pa. – One bad inning proved too much for the West Liberty University baseball team to overcome here Wednesday afternoon as Seton Hill snapped WLU's 7-game winning streak with a 14-3 romp in non-conference action.
Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (16-7) were locked in a 2-2 tie with the Griffins (16-10) when the hosts blasted three home runs in a 9-run sixth inning uprising to break the game wide open.
West Liberty pounded out 16 hits in the scheduled 9-inning game against the perennial Atlantic Region powerhouse but couldn't capitalize on its opportunities, leaving a total of 13 runners stranded on base.
Ethan Estes hit a solo homer and added a pair of singles while Mike Adams had three singles for the visitors. Chad Matthus also had a multi-hit game with a pair of singles and Tyler Ramsey doubled and drove in three runs. Tim Hughes and Luke Nees each added a single and an RBI in a losing cause.
Thursday's non-conference game against Ashland (Ohio) has been postponed with no make-up date set. The Hilltoppers, tied with Shepherd for first place in the MEC North Division, are set to host Notre Dame (Ohio) in back-to-back 1 p.m. doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at Kovalick Field.
