WLU Women Knock Off California (Pa.)

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team returned to action on Friday with an impressive 5-4 win against perennial Atlantic Region power California (Pa.) at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (9-4) won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead against the Vulcans (2-3), who have won 10 straight PSAC championships and are coming off a run to the 2016 NCAA Division II "Sweet 16."
Alaina Pauley and Ana Berbel teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles with Lisa Nachtwey and Andrea Puga rolling to an 8-0 whitewash at No. 3 doubles.
Puga, Pauley and Kate Pinchuk didn't waste any time putting the visitors away when the teams moved on to singles play.
Puga breezed to a 6-0 6-1 victory against Liz Wohar at No. 4 singles with Pauley coasting past Emily Suckling at No. 5 singles. Pinchuk turned in the most dominant performance of the afternoon as she didn't lose a single game in routing Charlie Gallagher, 6-0 6-0, in their No. 6 singles match.
The West Liberty women hit the road for another non-conference match on Sunday when they head to Philippi, W.Va. for a 2 p.m. test against Alderson-Broaddus.
