West Liberty Women Net Two More Wins

Women's Tennis | 10/5/2017 8:52:00 AM

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The surging West Liberty University women's tennis team rolled to two more Mountain East Conference wins on Wednesday at the Fairmont State University Tennis Courts.
Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (7-1, 5-0) crushed the host Falcons by a 7-2 count in an afternoon encounter before wrapping things up with a 9-0 sweep of Concord in an evening match.
West Liberty's doubles dominance was on full display again on Wednesday as the Black and Gold swept all three doubles matches against Fairmont State (5-4, 3-3) to key the runaway triumph.
Reigning MEC Player of the Week Thais Mendez teamed with Maurine Oudart at No. 1 doubles to hand FSU's No. 1 tandem of Trinite Klamadji and Heloisa Adams only their second league loss of the season in an 8-1 rout.
Laura Huwe and Alaina Pauley weighed in with an 8-4 nod at No. 2 doubles with Kate Pinchuk and Ana Berbel coasting to an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles for the visitors.
Mendez, Berbel, Pinchuk and Pauley all took straight-set wins in singles play to close out the match.
Gallagher shuffled her lineup for the evening encounter against Concord and WLU had no trouble dispatching the winless Mountain Lions (0-8, 0-8).
Huwe and Pauley moved up to No. 1 doubles and breezed to an 8-1 win while Pinchuk and Berbel posted an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles. Freshmen Makayla Schaefer and Alexandra Olson stepped in at No. 3 doubles and followed suit with an 8-0 victory of their own.
Oudart, Pinchuk, Pauley, Schaefer, Olson and Lisa Nachtwey completed the sweep with straight-set wins in singles.
The Hilltoppers will put their 7-match winning streak on the line Saturday when they host 4-time defending MEC champion West Virginia State in a meeting of the only two teams unbeaten in conference play.
Doubles action begins at noon on the courts at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
