Lady Hilltoppers Off to 3-1 Start

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 INDIANA, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team split its final two matches at the Quality Inn Crimson Hawk Invitational on Saturday to finish off a 3-1 start in the season-opening event hosted by Indiana (Pa.) University.
Coach Kayla Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers breezed to a 3-0 shutout of Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) on Saturday morning before suffering their first loss of the young season, a 3-0 setback against Ursuline (Ohio), in the afternoon. 
Amanda Leonard posted a rare triple-double in the win against Roberts Wesleyan with 11 kills, 14 assists and 14 digs to go along with 4 blocks. Raimey Benson added 10 kills while Stephanie Leonard checked in with 7 kills and 21 digs. Miranda Garmenn led the team with 16 assists while Kailee Cunningham charted a match-high 32 digs as the Black and Gold rolled to a 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 sweep.
Ursuline (3-1) was able to turn the tables on West Liberty in the final match of the day, prevailing in three hard-fought sets by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-18.
Caitlin Clarke hit double-figures with 10 kills for WLU while Benson added 9 kills and 7 blocks. Amanda Leonard had 8 kills and Sydney Scherer led all players with 8 blocks to go along with 4 kills. Garmenn had 10 assists and Cunningham added 15 digs in a losing cause.
The Hilltoppers head south on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference test at Ohio Valley University.
