Surging WLU Women Blank Wheeling Jesuit

Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team pitched yet another shutout and freshman midfielder Kaelyn Oskin came up big again as WLU blanked Wheeling Jesuit, 1-0, on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
With four wins and a draw in their last five matches, Coach Barry Christmas' surging Hilltoppers (4-3-1, 4-1-1) took over sole possession of third place in the Mountain East Conference standings with Sunday's victory against the Cardinals (1-6-1, 0-5-1).
Oskin, coming off her first career hat trick in Thursday's 3-0 win against Fairmont State, nearly struck again midway through the first half of Sunday's game when she ripped a shot over the head of the WJU keeper only to see the ball hit the crossbar and bounce away.
The true freshman from Knoch High School in Butler, Pa. wouldn't be denied when play resumed following a scoreless opening half. Gaining control inside the six during the 57th minute, Oskin tucked a shot inside the right post to break the scoring ice.
The Hilltoppers' work wasn't finished as the visiting Cardinals launched 7 of their 10 shots on the day after intermission but the WLU defense, keyed by sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hartnell, proved equal to the task.
Hartnell made four of her five saves during the final 20 minutes to finish off West Liberty's fourth shutout during the current run. The Black and Gold have surrendered only one goal in their last 470 minutes of action.
The Lady Hilltoppers return to the West Liberty Soccer Complex on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. match against Concord.
