Hilltopper Volleyball Improves to 7-2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The West Liberty University volleyball team split its final two matches at the East Stroudsburg Invitational on Saturday to complete a 3-1 run through the early-season tournament.
Coach Kayla Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers (7-2) dropped a 3-0 morning decision to unbeaten St. Anselm (N.H.) on Saturday but rebounded nicely with a 3-0 sweep of Molloy (N.Y.) in the afternoon.
In the morning match, St. Anselm (5-0) got off to a fast start with a 25-19 win in the opening set. The second set proved decisive as the New Hampshire squad outlasted WLU in a 30-28 marathon before eking out a 25-22 nod in the third set.
Mackenzie Sims led the Hilltoppers with 10 kills while Sydney Scherer and Raimey Benson added 8 kills each. Stephanie Leonard had 7 kills and 11 digs while Miranda Garmenn weighed in with 5 service aces and 20 assists.
West Liberty had no trouble with Molloy in the afternoon, opening with a 25-21 win before wrapping up the sweep by scores of 25-19 and 25-14.
Benson had a team-high 10 kills to go along with four blocks while Scherer added 9 kills and 6 blocks. Sims had another strong match with 9 kills and a block while Stephanie Leonard chimed in with 6 kills and 5 blocks. Garmenn and Katie Cornelius had 18 and 17 assists, respectively, with Kailee Cunningham contributing 14 digs.
The Hilltoppers face a big test on Tuesday when they travel to Wheeling for a 7 p.m. match against defending national champion and No. 2-ranked Wheeling Jesuit.
