Lady Hilltoppers Drop Season-Ending Twinbill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team closed out the 2016 season by dropping a Mountain East Conference doubleheader to Urbana on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the WLU Softball Complex.
Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (13-41, 6-26) were shut out, 9-0, in the opener and saw the Blue Knights (7-35, 5-24) come back with a 9-2 win in the finale.
In the first game, the visitors broke open a tight contest in the top of the sixth by batting around to push seven runs across the plate. Madison Collett had a double and a single to account for two of West Liberty's four hits.
Urbana jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second game but West Liberty narrowed the gap to 4-2 with single tallies in the fourth and fifth frames. Unfortunately for the hosts, the Blue Knights plated three runs in the top of the sixth and added two more in the seventh to put the game away.
Sydney Bennington singled twice and drove in a run for WLU while Kaitlyn Higginbotham also had two singles and stole three bases. Kelsi Johnson doubled in a losing cause.
