West Liberty Baseball Swept By Shepherd

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team couldn't get the bats going Saturday afternoon as Shepherd hammered its way to a Mountain East Conference doubleheader sweep at Kovalick Field.
Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (22-16, 10-12) came out on the short end of 5-1 and 13-1 scores against the MEC North Division-leading Rams (27-9, 18-4).
In the opener, Shepherd took advantage of a wild pitch, passed ball and an error to break up a scoreless pitchers' duel with three runs - two of them unearned - in the top of the fourth.
West Liberty got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on Mike Adams' two-out RBI single but the Rams tacked on single tallies in the sixth and seventh to put the game on ice.
Adams had two of the Hilltoppers' seven singles and drove in their lone run.
The Rams exploded for five second-inning runs in the nightcap and never looked back. D.J. Busby had West Liberty's only extra-base hit of the day, a triple in the bottom of the fourth, and scored WLU's only run on a sacrifice fly by Jordon Meyer.
West Liberty will try to turn the tables on the Rams Sunday afternoonwhen the teams return to Kovalick Field for another 1 p.m. twinbill.
