West Liberty Baseball Swept at Urbana

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 URBANA, Ohio – The West Liberty University baseball team dropped both ends of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Urbana on Sunday.
Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (21-14, 10-10) fell by a 10-6 count in the first game before the Blue Knights (14-22, 8-12) mounted a late rally for a 9-3 win in the second game.
Urbana jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the opener before West Liberty batted around in the top of the fifth to score six runs and get back in the game. The hosts added an insurance tally in the bottom of the frame and held WLU scoreless over the final two innings to get the win.
Nolan Marcus had two hits for West Liberty while Jared Carranza highlighted the big sixth inning with a two-run double and Tim Hughes had an RBI single.
The Blue Knights finished off the sweep in the second game by exploding for five runs in the bottom of the eighth to break up a tight contest.
D.J. Busby and Bub Haddox each had a double and single for the Black and Gold. Jordan Meyer also smacked out a pair of hits while Ethan Estes had an RBI single and Hughes launched a solo home run.
The Hilltoppers head to Wheeling Jesuit on Wednesday for a twi-night doubleheader, beginning at 6 p.m.
