West Liberty Baseball Splits With Falcons

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, Pa. – The West Liberty University baseball team split a Mountain East Conference doubleheader with Notre Dame (Ohio) Sunday afternoon at Consol Energy Park.
Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (20-11, 9-7) dropped a 6-3 decision in the first game but bounced back to hand the Falcons (17-16, 10-6) a 6-4 loss in the finale.
In the opener, Notre Dame broke open a close game with four runs in the top of the seventh. West Liberty scored twice in the bottom of the frame but couldn't claw all the way back.
D.J. Busby had two singles and drove in a run for the Hilltoppers while Nolan Marcus had a two-run single in the seventh.
Sean Pare worked seven shutout innings to earn the win for WLU in the second game with Anthony Bond and Tory Fuscardo finishing up on the hill after Pare tired in the eighth.
The Black and Gold spotted Pare an early lead with two first-inning runs and Jordon Meyer put the game out of reach with a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh.
Meyer led the West Liberty attack with a double to go along with his bases-loaded blast. Bub Haddox added a double, single and RBI while Ethan Estes chipped in with an RBI single.
The Hilltoppers return to Consol Energy Park on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against California (Pa.).
