Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. – The West Liberty University baseball team pounded out 15 hits but came out on the short end of a 15-13 score Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference slugfest against perennial Atlantic Region power Seton Hill at Consol Energy Park.
Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (8-4) jumped out to an early 8-2 lead but the Griffins (12-4) responded with five runs in the top of the third and four more in the top of the fifth to take an 11-8 edge into the sixth inning of the scheduled 9-inning contest. West Liberty scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to pull within a single run, 11-10, but Seton Hill tacked on four more runs in the top of the eighth to put the game out of reach.
D.J. Busby paced West Liberty's offensive barrage, driving in three runs with two singles and a home run. Ethan Estes chased home a pair with a double and a single while Michael Adams had two singles and two RBIs. Nolan Marcus and Bub Haddox each slapped out two singles and drove in a run while Yale Hughes had a two-run double. Justice Jackson had an RBI double and Jordon Meyer got on the board with a single and an RBI. The Hilltoppers return to MEC action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Concord.
