WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team jumped out to an early lead but couldn't hang on Wednesday afternoon as undefeated West Virginia Wesleyan came from behind to steal a 5-4 decision in Mountain East Conference action at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (5-3, 3-2) got off to a good start by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Rhiannon James and Laura Huwe took an 8-5 nod at No. 1 doubles while Raquel Cabero and Alaina Pauley notched an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
Huwe posted a straight-set win against Cecilia Oliver at No. 3 singles and Pauley rolled to a 6-4 6-2 win against Sarah Cameron at No. 6 singles but the Bobcats (4-0, 3-0) came out on top in the other four singles matches to walk away with the win.
The West Liberty women step out of conference play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Franciscan University.
