Women's Tennis | 10/22/2016 4:12:00 PM

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team put up a good fight here Saturday before dropping a 5-2 decision to top-seeded West Virginia State in a Mountain East Conference Tournament semifinal.
Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers trailed just 2-1 after doubles play thanks to an impressive 8-6 victory by Ana Berbel and Kate Pinchuk in their No. 3 doubles match.
West Liberty's other point came in singles play when Laura Huwe defeated State's Marta Yevstakhevych at No. 3 singles. Huwe outlasted Yevstakhevych to claim the opening set in a tiebreaker and picked up the win when the Yellow Jacket standout was unable to finish the second set.
Meanwhile, State had picked up a pair of quick wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles and was able to close out the match when Nina Dillwald prevailed in her No. 4 singles match.
