Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team trotted out the heavy artillery Sunday afternoon in sweeping a Mountain East Conference doubleheader from Shepherd on the Rams' home diamond.
Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (18-30, 8-18) closed out the regular season in impressive fashion by clubbing four home runs and pounding out 22 hits in outslugging Shepherd (18-21, 11-15) by scores of 7-2 and 9-7. West Liberty's pitching took center stage in the opener as Savanna Sieger gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first but blanked the Rams on just one hit over the final six innings. Sieger gave herself all the offensive support she needed with a three-run home run in the top of the third. Taylor Zeiger had three singles and drove in a run while Kalyn Hanby also picked up three hits. Charley Troggio had a two-run home run, Kelsi Johnson added a solo blast and Allyson Johnson weighed in with a double as the Hilltoppers won going away. West Liberty jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the second game and never looked back. Sieger had another big game at the plate, chasing home three runs with a home run, double and single. Hanby collected two more singles and three RBIs while Zeiger added a pair of base knocks and Kelsi Johnson doubled. SOFTBALL
