Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, Pa. - The West Liberty University baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to California (Pa.) here on Tuesday, falling by scores of 8-2 and 11-7 at CONSOL Energy Park.
In the opener, the Vulcans (21-19) broke up a 2-2 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on four more in the sixth to put it out of reach.
Tim Hughes chased home both West Liberty (21-16) runs with a two-run single in the top of the third. Tim Mirandy had a pair of singles and D.J. Busby doubled. Jordan Meyer gave the Hilltoppers an early 1-0 lead in the finale with a solo homer in the top of the first but California answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame and never looked back. D.J. Busby went 4-for-4 with four singles in the second game to lead WLU, which bashed out 21 hits on the afternoon. Meyer had a double and a single to go along with his circuit blast and Tim Hughes also smacked out a double and a single. Clay Francis singled and drove in a pair of runs while Jon-Michael Brunner and Justice Jackson each chipped in with a single and an RBI. The Hilltoppers return to Mountain East Conference action this weekend when they host Concord on Saturday andSunday in a pair of 1 p.m. doubleheaders.
