Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team split a doubleheader with West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon, rallying to a 7-6 win in the first game before dropping a 5-0 decision in the finale.
In the opener, the Bobcats (3-6, 2-6) pushed across 3 runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead only to see Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (13-5, 7-3) answer with a 3-spot of their own in the bottom of the frame to seal the win. West Liberty wasted little time putting the game-winning rally together. Jordan Meyer and Tim Hughes ripped back-to-back one-out RBI doubles to forge a 6-6 tie. After Wesleyan walked the bases loaded, the winning run came trotting home on an error by the WVW first baseman. Meyer had a single and double with an RBI while Bub Haddox had two singles and drove in a run. Tim Mirandy had a single and 2 RBIs with Yale Hughes had an RBI single. Sean Pare struck out the final hitter in the top of the 7th to earn the mound win. In the second game, West Liberty's D.J. Busby singled up the middle with 2 out in the bottom of the sixth to break up a no-hit bid by the Bobcats' Riley Metz but that was all the offense the Hilltoppers could muster as Wesleyan salvaged the last game of the 4-game weekend series.
