ERIE, Pa. – The West Liberty University wrestling team dropped a hard-fought 31-6 decision to Gannon here Friday night at the Golden Knights' Hammermill Center.
The final score didn't tell the story of a tightly-contested match as five of Gannon's eight wins came by margins of a single point or in overtime. The hosts also benefitted from a forfeit at 165 pounds.
There were a couple of bright spots for the Black and Gold.
Joel Paolo, ranked No. 4 in the region at 149 pounds, added another win to his resume with a 2-1 decision against John Marotto.
Eric Antesberger dominated his match at 174, coming up just one point shy of a major decision with a 10-3 victory.
The Hilltoppers return home to close out the regular season on Tuesday with a dual match against Seton Hill. Action gets under way at 7 p.m. at the ASRC.
