Two West Liberty University standouts were recognized earlier this month when Beyond Sports Marketing, Inc. released its 2014 Preseason All-Mountain East Conference football team.
    Senior wide receiver Dylan Potts and junior outside safety Andrew Faraimo represented the Black and Gold on the list of the MEC's Top 30 returning players as compiled by BSN's Dan Evans, an adjunct professor at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
    The 6-0, 200-pound Potts, a native of Sardis, Ohio who transferred to WLU from the University of Akron prior to the 2013 season, led the Hilltoppers in every receiving category and ranked among the MEC leaders with 62 catches for 680 yards and 7 TDs last fall to earn honorable mention All-MEC honors.
    Faraimo, a 5-11, 200-pounder from Lomita, Calif., was a second-team All-MEC selection a year ago in his second season as a starter. He led West Liberty with 10.5 tackles-for-loss and ranked second on the team with 75 total tackles. He posted double-figure tackle games at Duquesne and at UVA-Wise and finished the season with 3 interceptions, 2 quarterback sacks, a pair of quarterback "hurries" and 7 passes defended.
    Charleston, Concord and defending MEC champion Shepherd all placed 5 players on the Preseason All-MEC honor roll while Notre Dame claimed 4 spots and W.Va. Wesleyan checked in with 3. The Hilltoppers joined Urbana and Glenville State with 2 Preseason All-MEC selections while Fairmont State and W.Va. State received one each. UVA-Wise did not have a Preseason All-MEC pick.
    West Liberty kicks off the 2014 season at home on Sept. 6 when the Hilltoppers host Shepherd in a 1 p.m. contest at Russek Field.
