Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREENSBURG, Pa. – The West Liberty University baseball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Seton Hill on Tuesday, falling by scores of 3-2 and 5-0.
In the first game, Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (11-6) fell behind early when the host Griffins (11-8) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first two innings.
Four innings of shutout relief from Anthony Bond gave West Liberty a chance to scratch its way back into the game. The visitors pushed across a single tally in the top of the third on a Jon-Michael Brunner fielder's choice and pulled within a run on Anthony Pierro's seventh inning sacrifice fly.
West Liberty had the tying run on base following Pierro's sacrifice fly but Jesse Cooper came on in relief for Seton Hill to get the final out. Mike Johnson had a pair of singles for the Hilltoppers while Brunner had a single and RBI.
Four Seton Hill hurlers combined to hold West Liberty to just three singles in the second game. The Hilltoppers had multiple baserunners in the fifth and seventh frames but couldn't push anybody across the plate.
West Liberty returns to Mountain East Conference action on Saturday when the Hilltoppers host Glenville State in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Kovalick Field.
