WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Liberty University wrestling team couldn't get anything going Wednesday night and a series of narrow losses led to a 25-6 win for Wheeling Jesuit in dual meet action at the Cardinals' McDonough Center.
The die was cast in the opening match when Wheeling Jesuit's Dustin Warner eked out a 3-2 decision against the Hilltoppers'
Zach Brown. It was the first of four one-point or overtime decisions which would fall the Cardinals' way. That 12-point swing proved to be the difference in the match.
Jordan Nolan and Nate Dawson provided a couple of bright spots for West Liberty.
Nolan rolled to an 8-4 win against Sawyer Leppla at 174 pounds and Dawson actually plugged a close decision into the Hilltoppers' win column with a 3-2 win against Maxwell Lacey at 197.
The jinx returned with a vengeance in the very next match. West Liberty's
Aaron Silverio was tagged with a stalling penalty in the waning seconds of overtime to hand WJU's Corey Siegfried a controversial 2-1 nod and put a fitting end to the match.
The Hilltopper wrestlers will try to get back on track on Saturday when they compete in the Ohio Northern Invitational at Ada, Ohio
