WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The unbeaten West Liberty University women's tennis team passed an early-season Mountain East Conference test with flying colors Thursday afternoon, breezing to a 6-3 win against previously-unbeaten Charleston at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
The visiting Golden Eagles (4-1, 4-1) had shut out each of their first four opponents but Coach
Heather Gallagher's Lady Hilltoppers (7-0, 4-0) ended that run in a hurry
on Wednesday by taking two of the three doubles matches.
West Liberty finished off the impressive victory by rolling to wins in four of the six singles matches.
Lauren Howard and
Raquel Cabero each posted singles wins for the Hilltoppers and teamed up for an impressive 8-2 nod at No. 1 doubles.
Alex Barr pulled away late for a three-set win at No. 4 singles after joining
Emily Dawson to claim an 8-2 nod at No. 2 doubles.
Andrea Puga picked up the other point for the hosts with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles.
West Liberty returns to MEC action on Sunday when the Black and Gold host Shepherd in an 11 a.m. match.
