    WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – An early-season meeting of the Mountain East Conference's top two women's tennis programs didn't go West Liberty's way Sunday afternoon as West Virginia State swept the battle of Atlantic Region powerhouses by a 9-0 score at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
    Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (5-1, 3-1) found themselves in an early hole after the unbeaten Yellow Jackets (5-0, 3-0) pulled out a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles to take a 3-0 lead into the singles portion of the match.
    West Liberty had a chance to pick up a couple of wins in singles play as Lauren Howard and Alex Barr each won their opening sets, at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively, but their West Virginia State opponents rallied to win the second set and eked out narrow wins in the tiebreaker to complete the sweep.
    The Hilltoppers will try to rebound on Thursday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan in a 3 p.m. match.
